Govt. Empowers NCRA to Enforce Plastic Ban

The government is equipping the National Compliance and Regulatory Authority (NCRA) with the necessary information and resources to enforce the ban on single-use plastic bags, plastic straws and styrofoam.

That’s according to Minister with responsibility for the Environment, Daryl Vaz. The ban took effect on January one.

The NCRA is a regulatory entity under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries. Mr Vaz says he’s to meet with representatives from the agency on Monday to further discuss how the ban is to be enforced.

He notes the enforcement will be challenging in the preliminary stages. But he’s also calling on citizens to use their conscience so the nation can achieve the objectives of the ban.
